SGT BENNETT SETTING THE TONE, AND LEADING THE WAY

It all begins with an idea.

In every generation, certain leaders emerge whose influence reaches far beyond their rank. SGT Zavien Bennett is one of those leaders. His leadership is not driven by recognition or authority, but by a deeply personal commitment to family, integrity, and example.

For Bennett, service is more than a profession it is a living standard. Every decision he makes, every Soldier he leads, and every sacrifice he accepts is shaped by one guiding purpose: setting the right example for his children.
“I want them to see what dedication looks like,” Bennett shared. “I want them to understand what it means to commit fully to something bigger than yourself.”

A native of Warren, Ohio, Bennett has earned a reputation for steady, dependable leadership. He leads from the front, never asking more of his Soldiers than he is willing to give himself. In the field, in the barracks, and within his formation, his presence reflects consistency, humility, and discipline—the hallmarks of an effective Noncommissioned Officer.

That impact has not gone unnoticed. SGT Bennett was recently selected as Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for his unit, an honor reserved for NCOs who demonstrate exceptional performance, leadership, and dedication to Soldier development. He has also been selected for induction into the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, one of the Army’s most respected distinctions. Membership in this historic organization signifies excellence in leadership, professionalism, and personal character.

Despite these accomplishments, Bennett remains grounded. When asked about his motivation, he speaks not of awards, but of fatherhood.
“My motivation has always been my kids,” he said. “I want them to see what work ethic looks like. I want them to know that integrity, discipline, and commitment matter.”

His Soldiers describe him as reliable and uplifting. His peers view him as a standard-bearer. His leaders consider him an asset to the force. And at home, he is simply Dad, a role that ultimately defines how he leads in uniform.

Bennett’s induction into the Audie Murphy Club and his selection as NCO of the Year reflect more than professional success. They represent a leader who understands that true influence is built through actions, consistency, and care for others. His story is a reminder that leadership is not about authority it is about impact, sacrifice, and the quiet determination to leave something better behind.

For SGT Zavien Bennett, leadership is legacy and it begins at home.
